The Constitutional Union — founded by former Prime Minister Maati Bouabid in April 1983 — came first with 83 seats, followed by the RNI (61), the Popular Movement (47), Istiqlal (41) and the USFP (36) .
Many scholars see this rapid rise as an example of "administrative parties": newly founded formations that score big thanks to their closeness to power, then gradually lose weight .
