1993 election: a near tie with the Koutla
A near tie between the governing parties and the Democratic Bloc; the Constitutional Union came first with 54 seats, with the USFP and Istiqlal on 52 each.

The election on 25 June 1993 chose 222 members by direct vote; 111 more were then elected indirectly, for 333 seats in total. Turnout was 62.75% .
The two big camps split the seats almost evenly: Constitutional Union (54), USFP and Istiqlal (52 each), Popular Movement (51), then the RNI (41) .
Prelude to the Alternance The Democratic Bloc parties turned down offers to join the government in 1993 and 1994, postponing the "Alternance" until after the 1996 constitutional reform, which created a House of Representatives elected entirely by direct vote .
