The election on 7 September 2007 involved 33 parties and recorded the lowest turnout in Moroccan legislative history, about 37% .

Istiqlal came first with 52 seats, ahead of the PJD (46), which many polls had tipped to win, then the newly reunited Popular Movement (41) and the RNI (39). The USFP fell to 38 seats and lost its place as the largest party .
