Ahmed Reda Guedira, adviser to King Hassan II, founded the Front for the Defence of Constitutional Institutions in 1963 to gather the forces supporting the 1962 Constitution, including the Popular Movement .

The Front won the first legislative election on 17 May 1963 with 69 of 144 seats, short of an absolute majority . With the state of exception declared in June 1965 and Parliament dissolved, the Front lost its role and disbanded .
