The Front of Democratic Forces was founded on 27 July 1997 by Thami El Khyari as a breakaway from the Party of Progress and Socialism . It won 9 seats in 1997 and peaked at 12 in 2002 .
Its decline began with 9 seats in 2007 and a single seat in 2011 . It won 3 seats in 2021 and 2 in 2026 . Its current Secretary-General is Mustapha Benali .
