Roots of the new left This current descends from the "new left" that opposed the regime in the 1970s. Its best-known organisation, the Organisation for Democratic and Popular Action, entered Parliament with one seat in 1984 and four in 1997 . Through successive mergers the organisation became the Unified Socialist Party .
Federation, then separation Left parties ran together in 2007 (5 seats) and as the Federation of the Democratic Left in 2016 (2 seats) . In 2021 the Unified Socialist Party and the Federation ran separately and won one seat each .
The 2026 Left Alliance On 3 June 2026 the two announced the Left Alliance, led by Abdessalam Laâziz (Federation) and Jamal El Asri (Unified Socialist Party), with a 431-measure programme and a call for a parliamentary monarchy . The alliance won 8 seats, the best result in this current's history .
