Founding The Authenticity and Modernity Party was founded on 7 August 2008 on the initiative of Fouad Ali El Himma, a former deputy interior minister, building on the Movement for All Democrats and merging several small parties . Its founder's background has made the party's relationship with the state a recurring subject of debate.
A decade in opposition The party won 47 seats in 2011 and stayed in opposition . In 2016 it jumped to 102 seats (20.95%) and became the main rival of the PJD, without entering government . Six secretaries-general led it within twelve years, from Hassan Benaddi to Abdellatif Ouahbi .
From government to first place After the 2021 election (87 seats) the party joined the Akhannouch government . In February 2024 it adopted a collective leadership coordinated by Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri . On 23 September 2026 it won a legislative election for the first time with 97 seats . On 29 September 2026 the King appointed El Mansouri Head of Government and asked her to form the cabinet — the first woman to hold the post .
